Court: Former ONG Member May Not Keep Ducks For Therapy

USA Today

The 5th Ohio District Court of Appeals has ruled a former Ohio National Guard member in West Lafayette violated a local ban by keeping more than a dozen pet ducks to help relieve his post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. The court says there is not sufficient evidence to conclude the animals owned by Darin Welker are necessary or that he'd face imminent harm without them. Welker was convicted of a minor misdemeanor and fined 50 dollars. He says he he plans another appeal.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
