Court Rejects Appeal Of Businessman Convicted In Campaign Donations Case

cleveland.com

The Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has rejected the appeal of the conviction of North Canton businessman Ben Suarez. The court rejected arguments by attorneys for the 73-year-old  billionaire telemarketing magnate that their client did not receive a fair trial. Suarez was sentenced to 15 months in prison for trying to change a witness' testimony in his trial on  charges of making  illegal donations of 100 thousand dollars each to the 2012 campaigns of  Republican Ohio Congressman  Jim Renacci  and the failed U.S. Senate bid of Republican Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel. Suarez hoped the politicians would help him with a business-related civil matter in California.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
