CPH Officials Say Mumps Outbreak Appears To End

Health officials say the central Ohio mumps outbreak that resulted in nearly 500 cases of the contagious viral illness has ended. Columbus Public Health officials say they've logged 484 mumps cases this year in an outbreak that started at Ohio State University. That's 46 more than the total number of cases reported nationwide in 2013. Officials say the outbreak is considered resolved when less than one case is reported each week over seven consecutive weeks. Only three mumps cases were reported between Aug. 3 and Sept. 20.  Ohio has also dealt with a separate measles outbreak, which ended last month.
