CWRU Cancels Speaking Engagement By ABC Health Editor

wikipedia

A spokesperson for an Ohio university says the school canceled a speaker's scheduled trip because he had recently returned from covering the Ebola outbreak in Africa. Richard Besser, the chief health editor at ABC News, had been slated to speak Wednesday at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He was to discuss the importance of communication in public health and pandemics. Besser wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post that the university nixed the trip. He says he declined to address students via Skype because he didn't want to feed the idea that anyone who has been to West Africa poses a risk. Case Western spokesperson Bill Lubinger says it was the institution's decision to cancel the visit because it needed to err on the side of extreme caution.
