Despite Lawsuits, EPA Won't Declare Western Lake Erie Basin Impaired

The U.S. EPA says it won't declare Ohio's western end of Lake Erie impaired by algae blooms. Environmental groups have filed two lawsuits against the agency seeking the declaration. The decision means the state will continue to take the lead on fighting algae blooms. Declaring the lake an impaired watershed would have allowed for increased pollution regulations.
