Despite Passage Of Decriminalization Measure, Newark Police Will Still Make Marijuana Arrests

Newark officials say police will continue to charge and prosecute under state law residents who posses small amounts of marijuana. This despite a measure approved by voters earlier this month decriminalizing possession of less than 200 grams. Backers of the measure said it was designed to eliminate inconsistencies between state and local laws, and would allow police to focus on the opioid epidemic. Newark's law director says the measure gives authorities an option in pursuing such cases.
