Doctor Sentenced In Malnourished Teen's Death

The doctor of a 14-year-old Ohio girl who had cerebral palsy and weighed 28 pounds when she died has been sentenced to six months in jail and a year's probation on three counts of failing to report child abuse or neglect. 51-year-old Margaret Edwards of Trotwood permanently surrendered her medical license and pleaded no contest to the charges in Makayla Norman's 2011 death. Edwards faced a possible sentence of up to 18 months. Norman died from nutritional and medical neglect complicated by her chronic condition. Norman's mother and a nurse were convicted of involuntary manslaughter and other charges. Two other nurses were convicted of failing to provide for a functionally impaired person.
