The State Highway Patrol says troopers made 3 percent more arrests for drunken driving last year than they did in 2011.
More than 24-thousand people were arrested in 2012. The patrol credits its crackdown on drunken driving for the increase.The Patrol says crashes involving drunken drivers numbered rose by 14 percent last year to more than 12-thousand. 431 people were killed and more than 7-thousand were injured. The patrol says drunken or impaired drivers were responsible for more than 40 percent of all fatal accidents in 2012.
