Dublin Man Named Ohio's First Poet Laureate

poetryfoundation.org

Ohio's first poet laureate says he wants to use the position to re-integrate poetry into community life through collaborations with musicians, actors, dancers and other artists. Amit Majmudar was named to the position Thursday by Ohio Governor John Kasich. He'll serve two years beginning January 1. The 36-year-old doctor and radiologist from Dublin says he hopes to put his own spin on the position while also performing official duties of the post Ohio created in 2014. Those duties include public poetry readings, educational outreach and judging poetry contests. Majmudar's varied poetry has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Review of Books, The Atlantic Monthly and other publications. He's also a novelist and essayist. The New York-born Majmudar was raised in Cleveland.
