Ethics Commission Orders Columbus To Pay More For Officials' Trip With Lobbyist

The Ohio Ethics Commission says four current or former Columbus City Council members paid less than they should have to watch an Ohio State football game in a luxury suite with a lobbyist. Former Council president and current Mayor Andy Ginther, Council member Shannon Hardin, and former Council members Michelle Mills and Eileen Paley paid 250 dollars to watch the 2014 Big Ten Championship game. The commission says the trip was worth nearly 700 dollars and has ordered the city to pay the difference. WCBE obtained a copy of the order on Monday. The suite belonged to food vendor Centerplate, awarded a contract at the Franklin County Convention Center days earlier. The county terminated its contract with Centerplate after an internal investigation uncovered collusion.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
