Father Charged With Running Over Son Wants Detention Order Revoked

An immigrant charged with accidentally killing his 4-year-old son is asking a court to revoke a detention order and release him on bond on federal charges of failing to apply for permanent U.S. residence and using fake identification. Defense attorneys say a recent suggestion by federal prosecutors indicated the immigration charges could be dropped. Prosecutors say Natividad de Jesus Hernandez of El Salvador was using a permanent resident card with someone else's registration number when he accidentally ran over his son with his van in Union County last year. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
