FDA Approves New Child Cancer Treatment

cancer.gov

The U.S. Food And Drug Administration has approved a new treatment designed to help children and young adults fighting recurrence of the most common type of childhood cancer.  The treatment is called Car-T Cell Therapy, where cells are removed from a patient's blood, exposed to leukemia cells, re-engineered in a lab, and put back into the bloodstream.  Cleveland Clinic oncologist Mikkael Sekeres calls the treatment revolutionary.

The treatment is approved for use in certain children and young adults who are fighting a form of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, which is a cancer of the bone marrow and blood.
