Federal Court Rejects Alva Campbell's Appeal

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati has rejected arguments to stop next month's execution of a death row inmate who says he's too ill for lethal injection. 69-year-old Alva Campbell, who was convicted for a fatal carjacking in Columbus, said he should be allowed to raise new objections to the state's lethal-injection protocol based on recent changes to how it's carried out.  Campbell says he's so ill that lethal injection would constitute unconstitutional cruel and unusual punishment. Prosecutors call Campbell "a career criminal."
