Feds Propose Workplace Safety Fines Against Bellefontaine Company

The U.S. Occupational Health and Safety Administration says a rubber-hose manufacturer in Bellefontaine is facing a proposed 134 thousand dollar fine for 11 worker safety violations. The agency says HBD/Thermoid  Incorporated puts workers at risk of serious injuries by ignoring safety rules for industrial machines. The agency says the company must put required safety guards on large industrial machines used to cut and manufacturer rubber hoses at its plants in Ohio, California, Kansas, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The citations follow an October 2014 inspection at the Bellefontaine plant after the death of a worker caught in an industrial machine at its Salisbury, North Carolina, facility in May 2014. The company has yet to comment.
