Feds Reverse Course On Lake Erie Toxic Algae Decision

wkyc.com

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it should not have approved Ohio's recommendation to not declare the western Lake Erie basin impaired by toxic algae.

The agency's reversal says the state's list of impaired waters was incomplete and failed to properly evaluate lake waters. Several environmental groups have sued the agency, saying the lake should be classified impaired because algae blooms lower basic water quality standards. The designation would pave the way for increased pollution regulations.
