Fires, Gunshots Reported In OSU Campus Area After Football Buckeyes Win National Title

Jan 13, 2015

Columbus and Ohio State University police used tear gas to break up a crowd of thousands of people along North High Street in the OSU campus area early this morning after the football Buckeyes beat Oregon 42-20 to win the national championship.

At least 40 fires were reported and police dispatchers say they received several reports of gunshots in the campus area. No injuries are reported. The Buckeyes were led by running back Ezekiel Elliott, who rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns. OSU head coach Urban Meyer says he did not envision a championship when the season started, and credits his defense for controlling Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich also credited Ohio State's defense.

It's Ohio State's first national title in football since the 2002 season.
