FirstEnergy To Improve Power Grid

Akron-based FirstEnergy says it will spend more than 150-million-dollars this year to upgrade portions of Ohio's power grid. The work will include replacing utility poles, building new electrical substations and rennovating old ones, as well as trimming trees around power lines. The firm says the work is designed to make power blackouts less frequent. A joint U.S./Canadian task force blamed FirstEnergy for the 2003 blackout that hit several states and provinces.
