Foreclosures In U.S., Central Ohio Declined In 2014

The number of foreclosures in the U.S. fell by 18 percent last year, as compared with 2013. The mortgage listing service RealtyTrac says 1.1 million homes were in foreclosure in 2014. The service says 93 hundred foreclosure documents were filed in the Columbus area last year, down by nearly 37 percent from 2013. Ohio had the seventh-highest rate in the country last year, with 1 in 87 homes receiving a foreclosure notice. RealtyTrac spokesperson Daren Blomquist expects foreclosure activity in the U.S. this year will be close to 700 thousand, which he calls normal.
