ohioagcouncil.org

Former Cincinnati Bengals president and part owner John Sawyer died Thursday morning at a queen city retirement home at the age of 90. Sawyer battled health problems for the past four years. He was team president from 1968-93 and had served as a vice president since 1994. He is considered to be one of the founders of the Bengals and had long been a key adviser to the Brown family. The late Paul Brown, former Ohio State and Cleveland Browns coach, was the primary founder of the Bengals. His son Mike currently runs the team. The former World War II pilot Sawyer was a former part owner of the Cincinnati Reds and helped initiate construction of Riverfront Stadium.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
