Former Clerk Of Courts Smalley Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison

Former Fairfield County Clerk of Courts Deborah Smalley has been sentenced to 18 months in prison on theft in office and attempted theft in office charges. Other charges were dismissed against the Republican as part of a plea deal. Smalley and her husband, David, were charged with spending thousands of dollars of taxpayer money on salaries paid to county employees for work on her political campaigns. David Smalley, who has pleaded guilty to theft in office and having an unlawful interest in a public contract, is scheduled to be sentenced next week.
