Former Mount Sterling Administrator Facing Host Of Criminal Charges

Madison County Sheriff's Office

The former Mount Sterling village administrator was charged Tuesday with racketeering, theft in office, money laundering, tampering with records and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. Prosecutors says Joseph Johnson is accused of using village credit cards to purchase vehicles, parts, mechanical equipment, televisions, and other items. An investigation by the state auditor's office was launched after Johnson resigned in January, when officials first saw his financial activities and expenditures.
