Former Mount Vernon Cop Seeking Lenient Sentence

Federal Bureau of Investigation

A former Mount Vernon police detective accused of drug trafficking and who pleaded guilty to extortion is seeking leniency at sentencing, arguing he was motivated by a prescription painkiller addiction he developed after sustaining a shoulder injury while apprehending a suspect. Prosecutors say Matthew Dailey sold narcotics, extorted people and used a firearm in drug-trafficking activities. Dailey wants a nine year sentence. Prosecutors are asking for 11 years. Sentencing is scheduled for September 16.
