Former Springfield U.S. Postal Worker Pleads Not Guilty To Theft

A former U.S. Postal Service worker in Springfield has denied accusations that she stole items from several packages by stuffing them into her sweatpants. Former mail processing clerk Leanna Heskett has entered not guilty pleas to 21 counts of delay or destruction of mail. Prosecutors say the alleged thefts were caught on surveillance video. Heskett is the fifth postal worker accused of federal crimes in the western Ohio area in less than two years. The postal service's last half-year report to Congress reported more than 22 hundred investigations of mail theft occurred between April 1st and September 30th, 2015.
