Franklin County, Sheriff And Others Subject Of Wrongful Death Lawsuit

copblock.org

The daughter of a woman who died in the Franklin County jail last April has filed a lawsuit against Sheriff Zach Scott, county officials and several jail staffers. The lawsuit alleges 55-year-old Mary McCoy was not given proper medical care, despite showing obvious signs of alcohol withdrawal. The Franklin County Coroner says McCoy died of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. She was arrested on an open container charge. A spokesperson for county commissioners says officials do not comment on pending litigation. Scott is a candidate for Columbus Mayor.
