Fugitive Ohio Treasure Hunter Arrested In Florida

U.S. Marshals Service

The U.S. Marshals Service says a treasure hunter locked in a legal battle over the proceeds from a wrecked ship was paying cash for the Florida hotel room where he and a companion lived for more than a year. Tommy Thompson of Columbus and longtime companion Alison Antekeier were arrested this week in Palm Beach County. Thompson made history in 1988 when he found the wreckage of the SS Central America. A years-long legal battle involving insurance companies and investors ensued. Thompson was arrested on a warrant issued in Ohio in August 2012 after he failed to show up for a court hearing. Investors say they were duped by Thompson.
