Glenn To Be Laid To Rest In Arlington National Cemetery

glenn.osu.edu

Former astronaut John Glenn will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.  Plans call for Glenn's body to lie in state at the Statehouse this coming Friday and a public memorial service to be held at Ohio State University the next day before his private burial at the cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.  The Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board will meet on Monday to approve an exception to allow Glenn's body to lie in the Statehouse Rotunda. The Ohio native and longtime U.S. Senator died Thursday in Columbus at the age of 95 after being hospitalized for more than a week with an undisclosed ailment.  President Obama and Ohio Governor John Kasich have both ordered flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Glenn and his lifetime of public service. Glenn made history when he became the first American to orbit the Earth aboard NASA's "Friendship 7" space capsule in 1962.
