GOP Wins Tight Ohio House Race

Dec 7, 2012

Democrats have lost a tight Ohio House race in Cuyahoga County, narrowing the minority party's chances of controlling 40 seats in the next legislative session.

By hitting the 40-seat mark, Democrats could block the GOP majority from more easily placing ballot issues before voters. A recount completed Thursday shows Republican incumbent Mike Dovilla beat Democratic challenger Matt Patten. Democrats picked up a seat in Columbiana County, giving them 39 seats to Republicans' 59. The recount in the contest between Republican Al Landis and Democrat Joshua O'Farrell is expected to be completed today.
