Grand Jury Seated In Beavercreek Police Shooting Case

Dayton Daily News

Dozens of supporters of an African-American man shot and killed by white Beavercreek police officers at a store last month rallied yesterday outside the courthouse where a grand jury began hearing evidence in the case.

At least 80 people marched on Monday from the Wal-Mart in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek to the Greene County Courthouse in Xenia calling for "justice" for John Crawford III. He was shot by police Aug. 5 while holding an air rifle his family says he had taken off a store shelf.  Two white police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man waving a gun. Police have said Crawford was shot after not obeying officers' commands to put the weapon down.  Rally organizers say they plan to be at the courthouse daily as jurors continue their deliberations this week.
