Grand Jury Task Force Issues Recommendations

mimesislaw.com

A task force appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court to study methods to improve the grand jury system says the Ohio attorney general should be given exclusive authority to investigate police use of lethal force cases. The group says county prosecutors should be stripped of their power to investigate and prosecute fatal cases. The group says the move would increase public confidence since the AG doesn't have close working relationships with local officers who could be subjects of investigations. The group also says some grand jury testimony and evidence should be released in limited cases to foster public confidence. The task force was appointed by Republican Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor
