Groups Oppose Renewable Energy Compromise Bill

Consumer and business groups continue to oppose a bill governing utilities after its sponsor removed a provision that would have eliminated the state's renewables targets by year's end. The Ohio Consumers' Counsel and the Ohio Manufacturers' Association say the bill by Republican State Senator Bill Seitz remains bad for consumers. Association president Eric Burkland says the changes do "next to nothing" to keep electricity bills from rising or to improve manufacturers' competitiveness. Consumers' Counsel Bruce Weston cites an Ohio State University analysis showing residents would pay 300 million dollars more per year on electricity bills under the proposal. Seitz says the revisions represent a significant compromise. He expects a committee vote after Thanksgiving.
