An aide to Ohio's top-ranking military official has been placed on forced leave pending an investigation into his alleged misuse of a government computer.
A spokesperson for Ohio's adjutant general's office says Mark Wayda, the Ohio National Guard's vice chief of the joint staff, was placed on leave Friday for accessing inappropriate material. Spokesperson James Sims says Wayda is a federal civilian employee under Adjutant General Deborah Ashenhurst, a gubernatorial appointee. He had handled communications duties and served as a liaison to Ohio's congressional delegation about issues involving the Ohio National Guard since May 2009. Sims says Ashenhurst doesn't tolerate misuse of equipment, but Wayda has the right to "certain administrative reviews" before his employment can be terminated. A message seeking comment was left Friday at Wayda's home in Columbus.
