Hamilton County Prosecutor Probing UC Campus Shooting

Cincinnati Police

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters says his office is "rapidly investigating" the fatal shooting of a motorist by a University of Cincinnati police officer. Officer Ray Tensing was patrolling at the edge of campus Sunday evening when he pulled over 43-year old Samuel Dubose for driving a car with a missing front license plate.  Police say Dubose had an open container of alcohol in the car and admitted he did not have a driver's license.  They say the two struggled over the car door and Tensing fired one shot as he dropped to the ground.  The prosecutor says he expects an assessment to be completed by the end of next week. The Dubose family disputes the official description of the events. The family says Samuel Dubose was ill and could not have engaged in a struggle with the officer.
