Hardin Becomes City Council's First Openly Gay President

columbus.gov

Columbus City Council last night chose its first openly gay president.

Shannon Hardin was approved to succeed Zach Klein on a 4-2 vote. Council member Mitch Brown nominated Priscilla Tyson for the post. Those two voted against Hardin. Brown did not publicly state the reason for the Tyson nomination. Among other duties, the council president sets the agenda for meetings, and appoints committee members. Klein is the new city attorney.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
