Haslam Sends Rebate Checks To Trucking Companies

Pilot Flying J has sent checks to trucking companies allegedly shorted on rebates amid an FBI investigation of alleged fraud by the sales staff. Company CEO and Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam told customers in a letter made public Monday that following an audit, money owed, with interest, has been sent. The brother of Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has been doing damage control since the April 15th FBI raid on the company headquarters and subsequent release of an affidavit with transcripts of secretly recorded conversations among sales staff showing a scheme to defraud trucking companies of fuel rebates. Five members of the sales staff have pleaded guilty to mail fraud and are cooperating with prosecutors who are seeking to charge Jimmy Haslam and other top company officials.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
