Historic Ohio Mill Resumes Operations

A historic mill in Youngstown is working again. The main wooden beam has been replaced at Lanterman's Mill in Mill Creek Park. The white-oak beam supports the 4-ton wheel that powers the mill. It was hand-cut by the park forestry crew using steam-powered antique machinery. Mill Creek development and marketing director Linda Kostka says it will allow the mill to resume grinding corn, wheat and buckwheat. Without the water wheel turning the grindstone, there was gap for visitors looking to experience 19th century history and culture. The grinding had stopped in January.
