The Ohio Department of Veterans Services is using the Fourth of July weekend to remind veterans about the various benefits available to them. Ohio Public Radio's Andy Chow reports.
Director of veteran services Tim Gorrell says Ohio is putting military members on the fast track to jobs and higher education with additional college credits and translating existing military training into job skills.
Gorrell says his department is raising awareness of these benefits since veterans tend to be on most people’s minds during the Fourth of July festivities.
“They reflect on that these freedoms come at a price and there’s expression of gratitude towards the men and women who serve in our armed forces those who currently and in the past have been willing to go into harm’s way on our behalf,” Gorrell said.
Gorrell adds that Ohio recently increased compensation and pension benefits for veterans.
