Husted Defends Decision To Keep Anti-Fracking Measures Off Three County Ballots

State of Ohio

Attorneys for Republican Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted tell the Ohio Supreme Court  he acted properly in sidelining three county anti-fracking measures slated for the November ballot. Husted upheld election boards decisions in Athens, Meigs and Portage counties to invalidate initiative petitions seeking to put the measures on the ballot. Supporters filed suit arguing Husted may not decide the merits of the "community rights county charters." A similar fight took place last year. Husted and the counties contend the measures would leave counties without an authorized form of government. The measures call for restricting the use of water for fracking and prohibiting disposal of fracking wastewater.
