Cleveland City Council is considering a measure creating tougher penalties for people who drive on a sidewalk to pass a school bus.
The measure would increase a violation to a first degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail, a 1-thousand dollar fine and a driver's license suspension. The measure was introduced after Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Pinkey Carr ordered a woman to stand in public with a sign labeling herself an "idiot" for driving on a sidewalk to pass a bus. The judge says she supports the measure.
