Italian Village Residents Fighting High Rise Plans

Some Italian Village residents are fighting plans to build a high-rise apartment building along Pearl Alley a block off of High Street.  A petition drive is underway, asking Columbus City Council to stop the project, saying it will ruin their neighborhood park.  Residents say several mature trees would be uprooted from Italian Village park and a pavilion would be moved to make way for the building. The Italian Village Commission has approved the plan. The developer says it will create a 20 foot easement at the edge of the park and a "no build" area would remain near the park space.  The developer has yet to file a request for a zoning variance with council.
