Jackson County Man Sentenced For Buying Native American Remains

A Wellston man will serve three years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of purchasing the remains of eight Native Americans stolen from a farm. 57-year-old Mark Beatty must also pay a 35 hundred dollar fine and 1 thousand dollars restitution to the Miami Tribe in Oklahoma. Beatty agreed to publish an ad warning others not to engage in the illegal excavation of Native American remains and artifacts. Beatty also was sentenced to perform 100 hours of community service in a program supporting interests of Native Americans.
