A judge has granted former Democratic state lawmaker and former Columbus School Board member Carlton Weddington's request for early release from prison. Weddington was convicted in August of 2012 for accepting trips, gifts and campaign cash in exchange for promising to introduce legislation in the General Assembly. The judge says Weddington must perform community service, stay out of bars and lecture to business groups about the temptations of lobbyists in the lawmaking process. Weddington was arrested after he accepted perks and all-expense-paid trips to South Beach and Napa Valley from a fake business set up by the FBI as part of a lengthy public corruption investigation.
