Judge Orders Temporary Stay Of Lawsuit Against Crew SC

A Franklin County judge has granted a 90-day stay of a lawsuit seeking to stop the Columbus Crew SC's proposed move to Texas.

The lawsuit filed by the state and city cites the Art Modell law enacted after the Cleveland Browns moved to Baltimore in 1996. It requires teams using publicly supported facilities give six months' notice and allow local parties a chance to buy the team. The city has argued Crew owner Anthony Precourt was vague about the notice. The judge will meet with both parties to determine how to structure a potential sale. Both sides also must help determine the team's value.
