A Champaign County judge has rejected a request by the teen charged with last year’s shootings at West Liberty High School to get his confession tossed out. Attorneys for 18-year-old Ely Serna have told a judge the confession shouldn’t be allowed at his trial in April because he didn’t understand his rights at the time. The judge says Serna freely spoke with police after acknowledging he understood his rights.
