Judicial Order Blocks Further Euthanizations At Franklin County Dog Shelter

A Franklin County judge has granted a temporary restraining order preventing county dog shelter officials from euthanizing more canines amid last weekend's distemper outbreak. The restraining order was sought by animal rights groups critical of the shelter's handling of the situation. They want to prevent the shelter from euthanizing dogs without first having a positive distemper test, and to stop euthanizations based on behavioral or psychological symptoms, declining health or upper-respiratory symptoms. The say the euthanization of 84 dogs could have been prevented.
