Lame-Duck Wrap Up

Ohio Public Radio

The Ohio House and Senate concluded the lame-duck session yesterday by passing several bills. Ohio Public Radio's Andy Chow reports.

Different bills and amendments were batted back and forth across the Statehouse Rotunda between the House and Senate chambers till well past midnight.

The most contentious measures passed were the 20-week abortion ban along with the bill to pause the state's green energy standards again.

The chambers agreed to pass an unemployment compensation stopgap, a symbolic first step towards overhauling the system.

The House decided to toss the legislation that designated gun owners as a protected class, but lawmakers passed a bill to allow concealed carry on college campuses and daycares.

And a bill creating an early intervention truancy process to is also heading to the governor's desk.

Many, many bills did not make it past the finish line but legislators were quick to point out that they can always return next year.
