lakeerie.ohio.gov

State lawmakers are considering leglislation consolidating oversight of efforts to battle toxic algae in Lake Erie. The plan calls for reorganizing the Ohio Lake Erie Commission and turning its focus toward reducing the phosphorous from farm fertilizer and raw sewage that feeds the algae. The legislation would put the commission in charge of ensuring the state reach its goal of a 40 percent reduction of phosphorus within the next 10 years. The Ohio EPA says oversight is needed to ensure money is being well spent and programs aren't overlapping.
