Two bills have been introduced in the state legislature that would significantly increase the value of the Ohio Film Tax Credit.
One measure sponsored by Republican State Senator Tom Patton raises the tax credit available to movie makers from 20 million to 80 million dollars. Greg Lawson of the conservative think-tank The Buckeye Institute says private money should be used to boost filmmaking.
Patton says the credits will not cost the state any money.
A second proposal introduced by Republican State Representative Kirk Schuring would increase the credits to 75 million dollars. Both bills cap the amount available to a specific movie production at 5 million dollars.
