Local 10K Race Organizers Try To Ban Runners With Doping Histories

columbussports.org

The Columbus 10k road race is joining a handful of other races across the country trying to ban athletes with doping histories. It will no longer accommodate athletes, coaches and agents involved with systematic doping. Races in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana, have taken similar steps in the past year. The move comes after an Associated Press report detailed how an unknown runner from Kenya won tens of thousands of dollars competing in U.S. road races that are too small to test for drugs. Lilian Mariita twice had positive doping tests. Her agent, who says she wrongly believed her client was clean, is now under investigation by anti-doping officials. She insists she has done nothing wrong.
