Local Agencies Want Money From Rail Company

Local agencies say they are still trying to recover nearly 900 thousand dollars lost in the train derailment and explosion near Weinland Park last year. The agencies billing Norfolk Southern Railroad included Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Columbus police and fire divisions and the Central Ohio Transit Authority. COTA wants more than 600 thousand dollars for lost business and fire damage to its bus hub. Federal authorities have yet to determine what caused the derailment of 17 cars. Three were carrying 90 thousand gallons of ethanol that sparked the explosion. Two people were injured and several homes were evacuated.
