Local Bike Sharing Program Raising Fees, Adding More Stations

bizjournals.com

It is costing more to rent a bicycle in the Columbus area. Jim Letizia reports.

The CoGo Bike Share network, which allows people to rent bikes for a day or a year with a subscription, has raised the cost of a daily pass from 6 dollars to 8 dollars. The network is holding the line on the 75 dollar cost of an annual membership, but will offer a three-day pass for 18 dollars. CoGo will also add five additional bike stations in Columbus this summer, bringing to 46 the number in the city. The sites for those stations has yet to be determined. The network says the number of day passes purchased since the system started in 2013 has increased, while the number of annual users has declined. The City of Columbus has spent nearly 2.8 million dollars to help launch and expand the system into the Near East Side, Weinland Park and the OSU campus area.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
